British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) exists to promote excellence in small animal practice through education and science. The Association was founded in 1957 as a professional body to serve veterinary surgeons that treat companion animals and now has over 5,500 members. The majority of their members work in practice and represent over a third of the working veterinary surgeons in the UK. 

Position: Scientific Content Editor 
Location: Gloucester, Gloucestershire (Commutable from Cheltenham, Stroud, Tewkesbury, Ross-on-Wye & surrounding areas). 
Job type: Full Time, Permanent 
Salary: £27k to £30k per annum

About the role: 

The British Small Animal Veterinary Association, based near Gloucester, has a fantastic opportunity for a Scientific Content Editor to lead and coordinate the creation, curation, communication and promotion of our scientific output. The role will form a key part of the Association’s strategy to disseminate evidence based scientific information on small animal topics to our members and the wider profession. 

About you: 

The successful candidate will have a degree in life or health sciences – veterinary qualifications, or a PhD or Masters degree in life or health sciences, will be a definite advantage – and must possess excellent communication and organisational skills. A key factor will be the ability to digest and summarise complex content and reposition this as required for the intended audience. The successful applicant should also be able to multi-task and prioritise their workload, paying meticulous attention to detail. 

The ability to exercise personal initiative and work as part of a team is essential, as is confidence in dealing with senior colleagues, volunteers and contributors. An awareness of the processes of scientific research and publication would be advantageous, as would an awareness of a variety of communication channels including print and digital content, media communications, podcasts etc. 

The Person: 

The successful candidate will display natural affinity, integrity and diplomacy for communicating with diverse stakeholders. In addition they will have a track record of excellent time management, the ability to work independently and on their own initiative.
