Role overview:
Support Worker 

Our 11 year old male client is seeking an experienced support worker/buddy to work with him in his family home. He has cerebral palsy affecting all four limbs with a significant right sided weakness and distorted speech. He is able to drive a powered wheelchair and can walk short distances with one to one assistance. 

He requires a support ‘buddy’, who can take him out and assist him to take part in fun activities. 

Position: Part Time Support Worker (ref 19873) 
Location: Woodbridge, Suffolk (commutable from Ipswich and surrounding area) 
Hours: An average of 25 per week 
Salary: £13.00 per hour weekdays, £15 per hour weekends 

About the role: 

The role involves an element of personal care and partnership working with therapists to help improve his speech and mobility. He lives in a loving family home and is able to express himself very well. 
The support worker will be required to provide additional supervision and support and teach independent living skills to our client. 
There will be the opportunity to work alongside another support worker to provide 2:1 care when required. 
The support worker will need to drive our client’s mobility vehicle and take him to community social groups. 
There may also be opportunities to support our client during residential stays (weekends) and family holidays. 
Hours of work will be as follows: 

Term time (20 hours x 39 weeks) 
3 weekdays 1630pm-2030pm (most likely to include Monday and Friday) 
Sat or Sunday 9am – 5pm 

School holidays (40 hours x 13 weeks) 
4 weekdays 9am – 5pm 
Sat or Sun 9am – 5pm. 

About you: 

Ideally, applicants are invited to apply who are/have the following: 

-Pro-active, without requiring constant instruction. 
-Be confident to take part in activities with our client such as sailing and accompany him on activity holidays. 
-Ideally have some previous experience in working with children who have additional needs. 
-Ideally have previous behaviour management experience. 

Applicants must have a full clean driving licence. 

Due to the nature of the role an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate will be required.
