Position: Dementia Support Worker
Location: Chester-Le-Street (role covers County Durham)
Contract type: Permanent (subject to ongoing funding)
Hours: 20 per week
Salary: £11,420 per annum (actual)

About the role:
As a Dementia Support Worker you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide support, information and guidance to people with dementia and their carers; helping to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and putting them more in control of their lives. Our service within County Durham is unique to each person with dementia and is based upon their personal circumstances and support needs.
You will offer support and guidance to service users in a variety of ways; whether in someone’s home, at service offices or other locations, face to face, by phone, letter or email. You will also assist service users to access other services, providing signposting and referrals, as well as facilitating peer support groups and other group activities working in partnership with other organizations.
The Society is seeking an individual who possesses NVQ level 3 (or equivalent), has an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers. Your ability to assess service users’ needs and operate confidentially is essential to provide a valuable and worthwhile service.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent non-judgemental communication skills as well as strong organizational and time management skills in order to effectively manage your caseload and regular group activities.
This post is currently funded for 12 months from appointment, but is subject to further funding.
