Salary: £37,306 - £40,057 per annum

About the role:
Extremism is one of the greatest challenges the country faces and Local Authorities have a core role to play to help build stronger more resilient communities and tackle the harms that extremists cause. This Home Office funded role will help Leicester City Council to strengthen their work in this area and support national work to build partnerships with local communities and groups.
They are looking for an individual who will be responsible for developing a targeted programme of activity and local engagement to help counter extremism. You will lead on work to build an understanding of the drivers, prevalence and wider harms of extremism in Leicester. You will identify and build relationships with individuals and civil society groups who are working to build more cohesive and resilient communities and/or counter extremism. Support those local groups to identify the help they require to consolidate and expand their reach, and help bring different communities in Leicester together in a unified voice.
To be successful in this role you will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject and have in-depth knowledge of what constitutes violent and non-violent extremism and how they can manifest in local communities, and the range of interventions that can create more cohesive communities. This includes knowledge of the issues and challenges associated with the delivery of the Government’s Counter-Extremism Strategy.
A good understanding of Leicester as a place, Leicester’s diverse communities and extensive voluntary and community sector organisations is required. You will also have knowledge of the key drivers and influencing factors that can contribute to extremism and a lack of cohesion within communities. Experience of developing bids for resources, demonstrating sound business intelligence and the ability to identify commercially viable opportunities and produce a compelling business case for funding is also essential.
