The Veterinary Defence Society is a niche mutual insurance company specialising in providing professional indemnity insurance for the veterinary profession. The VDS is embarking on a significant period of change and development as it implements its strategic plan to consolidate its current strong position within the profession and develop other products, services and membership benefits. 

Position: HR Manager

Contract type: Permanent, part time 
Hours: A minimum of 24 hours per week over 4/5 days 
Salary: £28-34k per annum

About the role: 

In order to support the VDS, it requires a part-time HR Manager to manage, lead and provide Human Resource support at all levels within the Society which ensures that managers and employees are equipped with best practice to foster a high performance culture to support its strategic plan. 

You’ll be responsible for managing complex employee relations casework including but not limited to recruitment, dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy. You’ll develop policies and procedures to drive performance and mitigate disputes, ensuring the workforce is aligned with the organisation’s strategic goals. In addition you will also be responsible for benefit administration, 3rd party relationship management and health & safety. 

About you: 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of working in a generalist HR environment, preferably supported by a CIPD qualification. You’ll have practical experience of advising on a range of HR areas and will have knowledge of good line management practice. 

Knowledge of current employment legislation and best practice across recruitment and selection, absence management as well as capability, disciplinary and grievance are required. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as well sound IT proficiency and experience of using IT in an HR context are also important to success in this role. 

You may have experience of the following: HR Manager, Human Resources Manager, CIPD, HR Generalist, Senior HR Adviser, Human Resources Team Leader, Charity, Third Sector, etc.
