The British Dietetic Association is a leading professional body and trade union, and is the largest organisation of nutrition professionals in the UK; representing the nutrition and dietetic workforce across all sectors. With over 8,700 members, increasing member engagement and advocacy is a crucial growth area for them, and the effective management of their vital volunteer networks play a key role in enabling them to do so.
Position: Policy Officer for Scotland and Northern Ireland
Location: Home based (preferably Scotland or Northern Ireland)
Job type: Permanent
Hours: 21.6 hours per week
Salary: £32,770 - £36,129 per annum (fte) per annum

About the role:
The External Affairs team of the British Dietetic Association is looking for an enthusiastic Policy Officer to make sure that the interests of the dietetic professional are represented in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
This role will involve influencing and working closely with other organisations, the Scottish Parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly, government departments and appropriate bodies on behalf of BDA. The post holder will work closely with the External Affairs team and BDA staff, key members of the BDA and the BDA boards covering Scotland and Northern Ireland.
You will have excellent written and oral skills and will be using them to proactively work in the health and social care policy arena in both countries. You’ll also hold a degree level qualification and have an in-depth understanding of the dietetic profession.
The successful candidate will have excellent time management and project management skills, with a methodical approach and keen eye for detail. You will be able to translate and communicate complex information to a wide and varying audience as well as having great report writing skills.
Ideally, you’ll hold a dietetic, nutrition, clinical or allied health profession qualification as well as a post-graduate qualification. Knowledge of political structures and developments in Scotland and/or Northern Ireland as well as experience working in a political (member elected or national body) environment would also be extremely beneficial.
